Departing from the EC or GRD
Travellers fly from their selected airport to Cape Town, where the Go Trip guide will meet the group.
Departing from GP
Guests fly to Cape Town and meet the Go Trip guide before travelling to Blaauwberg Beach Hotel.
Departing from KZN
Travellers fly to Cape Town, meet the Go Trip guide and spend the first night at Blaauwberg Beach Hotel.

- Personal expenses
The group will stop at suitable places where guests may purchase lunch or something light to eat.
Optional Die Hel Excursion
The full-day optional excursion to Die Hel includes transport with a local guide and lunch.
- Estimated price: R900 per person
- Availability: Limited
- Booking: Advance reservation is recommended
The route includes steep, narrow and rugged mountain roads and is not suitable for every traveller.
Guests with mobility concerns, motion sensitivity or discomfort with mountain passes should discuss the excursion with Go Trip before booking.
Flight Information
Flights are not included for travellers flying to Cape Town.
Go Trip can assist with arranging flights for an administration fee of R50. Airline fares remain subject to availability and may change at any time.
Accommodation and Room Sharing
The tour price is based on two guests sharing a room.
A single supplement applies when one guest occupies a room alone:
- Eight-day itinerary: R4,500
- Cape Town six-day itinerary: R3,000
The single supplement is payable with the deposit and may be refunded if the traveller later finds a suitable sharing partner.
Travelling alone but willing to share? Indicate this on your booking form. Go Trip may be able to introduce you to another solo traveller who is also looking for a sharing partner.
Karoo Weather
The Karoo can be cold during late May and early June, particularly at night and in the early morning.
The supplied itineraries indicate average maximum temperatures of approximately 20°C and minimum temperatures of around 6°C.
Sutherland may feel considerably colder during the evening stargazing excursion. Guests should pack:
- Warm layered clothing
- A winter jacket
- Closed shoes
- A scarf, gloves and warm hat
- Comfortable daytime clothing
- Sun protection
Important Tour Information
- Stargazing remains dependent on weather and visibility.
- The SALT visit may be affected by operating requirements or local conditions.
- The Die Hel excursion has limited availability and involves challenging mountain roads.
- Some accommodation in Sutherland is spread across different guest houses in town.
- Tour dates, accommodation, prices and itineraries remain subject to change.
- Vehicle size will depend on the final confirmed group size.

Stargazing in Sutherland
Travel through Matjiesfontein to Sutherland, one of South Africa’s best-known stargazing destinations.
After an early dinner, venture beneath the Karoo night sky for a guided stargazing experience surrounded by the stillness and darkness that make this region so remarkable.
Prince Albert
Spend time in the historic town of Prince Albert at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains.
Admire its Victorian, Karoo and Cape Dutch architecture, browse local shops and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere that has made the town a favourite among artists, food lovers and travellers seeking a slower pace.
Meiringspoort and Oudtshoorn
Travel through the dramatic landscapes of Meiringspoort to Oudtshoorn.
Visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch before continuing through Calitzdorp and Barrydale to Montagu.
Robertson and Paarl
Visit Marbrin Olive Growers in the Robertson Valley and discover its range of locally produced olive oils, table olives and tapenades.
The journey continues to Under Oaks in Paarl for lunch and wine tasting beneath established oak trees surrounded by vineyards.
